Serum vs. Moisturizer...What's the Difference?!
What is the difference and which is better? I have been asked this countless times...
The answer to that really depends on your skin type and what works best for you! With facial serums most of the fluid has been eliminated so you are left with a higher concentration of ingredients like peptides, antioxidants and skin brighteners. This is especially good for fast absorption on oily skin. Since serums are lighter and pack more of a "punch" with what they have to offer, they tend to come in smaller packages. It's important to follow the "less is more rule". Your skin can really only absorb so many nutrients at once, so when it comes to a serum, a dime sized amount should be sufficient. Believe me, your face and your wallet will thank you!
However, maybe you suffer from dry skin and want something a little heavier. If you need a solid moisturizer then creams are best at locking in moisture and creating a barrier for your face. They also tend to be a little more cost effective since they come in larger containers. I personally love a good night cream. They are thick and luxurious. It really makes me feel like the day's wear and tear is being repaired overnight.
There's also no rule that you can't use a combination of both! See what feels good for you and your skin. Personally, I like to use our Under Eye Serum twice a day, our Retinol + Vitamin C Serum in the morning and I rotate between night creams (currently a fan of Olay Regenerist...shout out!) Have fun with it, try everything, but most of all continue to take care of your face. It's the only one you've got!
